What you are about to witness is genesis:
This final moment in the first Iron Man movie is why you are going to see Avengers: Age of Ultron this week. Well technically the entire film is why you are in theaters today; but for the purposes of this article I want to focus on this one moment.
Because Marvel Studios had the balls to include this in the final credits we now have Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark for the last seven years. This final scene is why there have been 2 Avengers films, 3 Iron Man films, 2 Captain America films, and 2 Thor films. (Oh and more to come by the way.) Not only that but we also have had a surprisingly, and quite enjoyable, new franchise in Guardians of the Galaxy and a possible second sleeper with Ant-Man. But wait, there’s more! We got Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and so much more. Did I forget to mention that we also have a bevy of television shows both on traditional and streaming platforms?
Oh and let’s not forget that because of this final scene that the competition is now playing ball. Warner Brothers is making sure DC Comics get their share of films. Some would say we have hit critical mass with the superhero genre. I mean I have lost count now but we might have about 1,000,000 films in production with a comic book character involved. Okay so we actually might be in overkill mode. But as a comic book fan I am keeping everything with an open mind and am pleased we can now see all of these character get their share in the spotlight after so long. So thank you Marvel Studios! You have changed the industry forever thanks to your gutsy move.
